1-Etznab Trecena’s theme: Separation
Begins 7 April 2019 & 23 December 2019
Aztec deity ruling all Etznab days: Chalchiuhtotolin (God of Disease and
Plague)
The Mayan glyph for Etznab is knife tips, while the Aztec glyph for Tecpatl is a flint knife. A knife can be wielded by a doctor to repair, or a madman to inflict harm; hence Etznab is always on the edge, between balance and fairness, separation and surrender. It represents sacrifice and a situation that can go either way. It also has some healing properties. The knife symbolizes indecision when there are not enough elements to make a choice. It indicates a lack of gratitude.
